RIDDLES

Riddle 1. A lady read a book, turned the light out and went to sleep. In the morning, when she saw in the newspaper that a ship had sunk drowning all on board, even though she did not know anyone on the vessel, she committed suicide. Why?
A. She was the light keeper.

Riddle 2. A man  broke all Ten Commandments. He lied, stole, coveted the good things others had, lusted after women, disobeyed his parents, murdered a baby, denied the existence of God, and ridiculed those who kept the Sabbath. What will he have to do to escape the fires of hell?
A. Nothing. Doing something got him in trouble in the first place. Now he must rely on the work of Jesus Christ.

Riddle 3. There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews: The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him. Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb, and be born? (John 3:1-4).

A. Being born again occurs spiritually not physically. The first birth is physical (of water). The second is spiritual. To get into heaven, you must be born again of God who is spiritual. Are you born again? Find out how others experienced being born again at http://mbbc.us/testimonies.

Riddle 4. Two people, Kathy and Bruce, have the following conversation:

  • Kathy: I forgot how old your three kids are.    Bruce: The product of their ages is 36.
  •  Kathy: I still don’t know their ages.   Bruce: The sum of their ages is the same as your house number.
  • Kathy: I still don’t know their ages.   Bruce: The oldest one has red hair.
  •  Kathy: Now I know their ages!

A.

  • Step one, determine the possible combinations of three ages whose product is 36.
    • 1 x 1 x 36;   1 x 6 x 6;   2 x 2 x 9;    2 x 3 x 6;    3 x 3 x 4;   1 x 4 x 9;   1 x 2 x 18;   1 x 3  x12
  • Step two, determine the sum of each of the four combinations.
    • 38;    13;    13;    11;     10;    14;    21;    16
  • Step three, all but two numbers are unique. Kathy knows her house number, therefore, not knowing the ages of children indicates that she needs more information to choose between the  two duplicate combination of ages totaling 13.
  • Step four, there is but one eldest child, which means two must be younger. Therefore, 2, 2, and 9 years of age is correct.
